3rdThursday California Avenue

Since its debut in May 2023, 3rd Thursday has grown into a vibrant, monthly, year-round music festival that energizes California Avenue in Palo Alto with the power of live performance and community spirit. What began as a celebration of local music has evolved into a signature event for the area, drawing neighbors, families, students, and visitors to enjoy an evening of sound, culture, and connection. The event transforms the street into a festive destination with three stages of live music and an ever-changing mix of community-centered experiences. It encourages everyone to eat, shop, and play local—supporting small businesses while soaking in the rich atmosphere of shared creativity and joy.

Drawing music lovers from Palo Alto, Stanford, East Palo Alto, and across the Peninsula, 3rd Thursday has already showcased over multiple bands across a spectrum of styles and backgrounds, creating a space where diverse voices come together to celebrate culture and community. More than just a music festival, it’s also a growing hub for family-friendly activities aligned with monthly themes—from open mic performances and arts & crafts to storytime circles, food tastings, and games with prizes. Local nonprofits and community groups have become integral to the experience, leading engaging educational booths and activities that inspire deeper connection and awareness. Always free, always inclusive, and entirely volunteer-powered, 3rd Thursday is a grassroots celebration where everyone belongs.
