Bella Sorella
Bella Sorella is a Bay Area-based soprano ensemble founded by Nova and Susanna Jiménez, two classically trained singers whose friendship and musical chemistry began as college roommates at the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music. Their shared passion for vocal harmony and storytelling led them to form Bella Sorella—Italian for “beautiful sister”—a name that reflects both their musical bond and their real-life connection as sisters-in-law.
Since officially forming in 2005, Bella Sorella has performed across the United States and abroad, captivating audiences with their blend of classical and contemporary styles. Their repertoire spans over 300 years and seven languages, and includes opera duets, art songs, and pop-inspired arrangements. Notable performances include appearances at AT&T Park for the San Francisco Giants, Villa Montalvo, the San José Italian Festa, and the Primavera Festival in Nagoya, Japan.
The duo’s unique sound and engaging stage presence earned them the title of Vocal Group of the Year at the 2007 Los Angeles Music Awards. Their debut album, Popera, showcases their ability to bridge genres and bring classical technique to modern audiences. Bella Sorella has also appeared on NBC and Bay Area television, and their music has been featured on radio stations in both California and Japan.
Beyond the stage, Nova and Susanna are dedicated educators and performers. Nova Jiménez serves as a lecturer in voice at Stanford University and has performed with numerous regional opera companies and choirs. Together, Bella Sorella continues to inspire with their artistry, versatility, and commitment to making classical music accessible and emotionally resonant.
