Whiskey Hill Billies
Whiskey Hill Billies bring their high‑spirited blend of folk, country, and rock to the Bay Area stage — and they do it with laughter, three‑part harmonies, and a healthy dose of musical mischief.
Founded when Australian singer‑songwriter PJ Weston (“Billy the Kid”) wandered into the Pioneer Saloon at the top of Whiskey Hill in Woodside, CA, the band came together organically over impromptu jam sessions with Andrew McKaige (“Outback Billy”) and Steve Dussé (“Wild Bill Hiccup”), soon joined by Dan Lucas (“Cool Hand Luke”) on drums.
Early on, known as the “Big Basin Boys,” they evolved their sound from acoustic folk/country into a plugged‑in Americana experience. With each member contributing originals—and all three vocalists trading verses and instruments—their repertoire quickly grew to span 4+ hours of music, covers included.
Their live shows are as much about humor and audience connection as they are about music. Dan Lucas observed that their “saloon bar Rat Pack” style, combined with songwriting quirks and personality-rich banter, sets them apart
By the end of the 2010s, Whiskey Hill Billies had become fixtures across Peninsula venues—from wineries and city summer concerts to local festivals. During the COVID-19 era, like many, they shifted to backyard and online performances, but live gigs returned soon after as restrictions eased
Their music is available on all major streaming services, released track by track since the early 2020s. In addition to Bay Area performances, they’ve begun touring beyond, including a planned “Rolling Tundra Review” in Alaska in 2025, signaling their ambitions to bring the party further afield
